Dynamic Performance Engineering (DPE), a leading American manufacturer of high-performance modular alloy wheels, is working with STAR BLACK as its exclusive partner-dealer in Singapore. Based in Southern California, DPE is renowned for its original designed modular wheels that are track-proven and performance-driven.
What makes DPE wheels so special?
Aesthetics and other advantages aside, DPE wheels are also widely renowned for its excellent construction materials and techniques.
DPE wheels are custom-forged and utilize the highest quality forged T6-6061 aircraft aluminium compound in its wheel manufacturing process. This material ensures superb lightweight characteristics while maintaining absolute stringent structural integrity specifications.
Another brilliant characteristic is that DPE wheels are modular in construction with a range of two-piece and three-piece models. Enthusiasts who are closely familiar with the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of aftermarket rims would attest to the outstanding benefits that modular rims offer in terms of enhanced durability, strength and performance.
DPE’s winning formula originates from its extensive R&D and Computer Aided Design which then creates prototypes that are rigorously tested at accredited independent laboratories. All DPE wheels are engineered to exceed standards set by the United States Department of Transportation.
Customizing for the perfect fit
DPE models are customizable in virtually all aspects for any car - from wheel size, width, offset, pitch centre diameter (PCD), colour of spokes, barrel lip width, colour of barrel lip, and bigger brake clearance. As a result, DPE wheels run on any car with the perfect wheel offset, perfect width and, hence, they look flushed with car fenders. There are no wheels spacers required for the wheels to be installed on the cars.
DPE offers 30 wheel designs in three different design series: The three-piece Signature series; two-piece LS/GT series; and the two-piece R-series.
Benefits of modular wheels
A commonly asked question among car owners is: Why are forged wheels better than OEM and after-market cast alloys?
Forging uses the process of intense heat and pressure to mould the alloy into the final shape of the rim. Forged aluminium is about 300% stronger than cast aluminium, yet less amount of alloy is needed to produce the same size wheel. Hence, a stronger but lighter product in the two-piece DPE wheels. The centre spoke is forged and welded or bolted onto a spun or stamped outer barrel (lip).
In the three-piece DPE Signature series, the centre spoke is bolted onto an inner and an outer barrel half. This is an advantage allowing for easy customization for a variety of offsets, widths and colour combinations.
In contrast, cast alloys from OEM manufacturers and aftermarket tuners use either gravity casting where the molten alloy is poured into a mould and allowed to cool, or low pressure or negative pressure casting where the molten alloy is drawn up into the mould using a high-pressure vacuum. Intuitively, cast alloys are not as strong or as light as forged wheels like DPE.
